Frequently Asked Questions
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) enables individuals with permanent disabilities to choose the level of care and assistance they need to realise their unique life and employment goals. People with a persistent or significant disability under the age of 65 are eligible for the NDIS, a new approach of providing disability services in Australia.
To be eligible for the NDIS, you must meet the following criteria:
- If you live in an area where the programme has already been implemented
- When you apply, you must be under 65 years old and an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or New Zealand citizen with a Protected Special Category Visa.
- Have a long-term disability that makes it difficult for you to communicate or manage your life
- You require immediate assistance that will improve your functionality and reduce future requirements

You can fill out an Access Request form on the NDIS website. You may fill out this form alone, with family, friends, or a caregiver.
Your NDIS plan can be managed in three distinct ways. You can select one of the options below or a combination of two or three of them.
The three options are:
- NDIA Managed - Your plan is managed by the NDIA
- Plan Manager - Your plan is managed by a Plan Manager of your choice
- Self-managed - You manage your own NDIS plan
